President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Tuesday extended heartfelt gratitude after receiving the 2025 Samuel Kanyon Doe Peace and Progress Humanitarian Award, a distinction presented by Mr. Teddy Kimba Doe, son of the late President Samuel Kanyon Doe.
The ceremony took place at the President’s Rehab offices in Paynesville, where Mr. Doe formally honored the Liberian Leader on behalf of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Legacy Foundation.
President Boakai described the award as a significant gesture toward reconciliation and nation-building, praising the Foundation for promoting unity and preserving the late President Doe’s legacy through constructive public engagement.
Reflecting on his years of service under the People’s Redemption Council (PRC), President Boakai recalled moments of personal interaction with President Doe during his tenure as Minister of Agriculture, memories he said symbolize shared national history and a reminder of Liberia’s ongoing journey toward peace.
He emphasized that the dignified reburial of the late President marked a crucial moment not only for the Doe family, but for Liberia’s collective healing process.
The President commended Mr. Teddy Doe for his patriotism and commitment to supporting national progress. He welcomed the announcement of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Legacy Foundation Liberia, which is expected to roll out several initiatives, including a scholarship program at the Grand Gedeh County University in Zwedru.
According to President Boakai, efforts such as these align squarely with his administration’s priority areas, youth empowerment, inclusive development, and sustained national unity.
“As a nation, we move forward when we choose reconciliation over division and service over conflict,” he said. “This award symbolizes not just recognition of our efforts, but a shared commitment to building a peaceful and united Liberia.”
President Boakai assured the Foundation of his government’s support as it embarks on programs aimed at community upliftment and national development.
