The Ministry of Health (MOH) has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two dedicated employees of the National Leprosy and Tuberculosis Control Program (NLTCP). The incident occurred on Thursday along the Bong County highway as the team was returning to Monrovia following a three-day Annual TB Review Meeting in Nimba County.
Those who lost their lives have been identified as Mr. George N. Clay, Administrative Assistant, and Mr. Augustus Wylie, TB/HIV Focal Point. Both men were described by the Ministry as passionate public health professionals who served Liberia with integrity and devotion.
“Their passing is an immeasurable loss not only to their families and colleagues but also to the entire health sector,” the Ministry stated.
Four other members of the NLTCP team, Omeme Willie, Efelia Flomo, Michel Amara, and Ciafa Kromah, survived the crash. They are currently receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support as part of their recovery process.
The Ministry of Health extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and coworkers of the deceased, while assuring continued support to both the survivors and affected families.
Arrangements for memorial and funeral services are being finalized and will be announced subsequently. The Ministry has also appealed to the public to remember the grieving families and recovering staff in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
