Liberia’s Football Budget Sees Massive Boost Ahead of 2026 Season
The Liberia Football Association (LFA), in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has announced a significant increase in government support for football development, marking a historic shift in national sports funding.
According to the institutions, the football budget has soared from a modest US$50,000 in 2025 to over US$1 million under the newly approved US$1.2 billion national budget for 2026, a record-breaking allocation for the sport in Liberia.
This major financial boost is expected to transform the local football landscape, paving the way for better player compensation, improved training facilities, and expanded development programs across the country. Officials say the move reflects the government’s growing commitment to sports as a driver of youth empowerment and national pride.
The news has also sparked optimism within the Liberian football community. With improved incentives and stronger institutional backing, several international Liberian players are reportedly considering a return to represent the national team, potentially reigniting the Lone Star’s competitive edge on the continental stage.
Stakeholders are calling the development a “game-changer”, one that could usher in a new era for Liberian football and inspire the next generation of athletes.
