MONROVIA – Rising Liberian artist Fluxii has officially parted ways with DMG Music, ending a two-year collaboration that produced chart-topping hits and multiple Liberia Music Awards nominations. The split follows an emotional open letter from DMG Music CEO Shadrick A. Kuteh, who reflected on their shared accomplishments and expressed heartbreak over her decision to terminate a contract renewed just three months ago.
During their collaboration, Fluxii and DMG Music delivered hits including Talk So, Hustle, Time, and Next, while earning five nominations at the Liberia Music Awards, including back-to-back Female Artist of the Year nods. Kuteh highlighted the creative and professional growth achieved during this period and praised Fluxii’s talent and dedication.
While the split is officially framed as amicable, industry observers suggest that recent discussions on artist autonomy and social media control may have influenced the decision. Patrick S. Nagbe, also known as Korotr Barry, a comedian and former manager of Fluxii, has been vocal about managerial practices that restrict artists’ control over their own platforms.
Through a series of social media posts, Barry criticized managers and labels who “take over pages they didn’t build,” block artists from their accounts, post without permission, and use platforms as tools of control rather than support. He described these actions as exploitation, digital domination, and abuse of power, emphasizing that artists deserve transparency, respect, and ownership of their creative work.
Barry has also announced a new radio program, Industry Bench, dedicated to educating artists, exposing exploitative practices, and encouraging accountability within the Liberian music industry. His posts highlight a growing movement among artists to reclaim control over their voices and platforms and challenge long-standing patterns of silence and exploitation in the industry.
Some industry stakeholders speculate that these revelations may have contributed to Fluxii’s decision to terminate her contract, signaling a shift toward greater independence and self-determination for artists in Liberia.
