President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has made sweeping changes at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), dismissing the institution’s top leadership in what the Executive Mansion describes as a move to enhance accountability and strengthen the country’s public health governance.
In the announcement, President Boakai relieved Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan and Dr. Adams K. Lincoln of their duties as Director General and Deputy Director of NPHIL, respectively. To ensure the institution’s smooth operation, he appointed Dr. Sia Wata Camanor as Interim Director General until a permanent leadership structure is put in place.
According to the Executive Mansion, the decision aligns with the President’s ongoing effort to reform key public institutions, promote efficiency, and ensure effective leadership within the country’s health sector.
The leadership shake-up comes amid renewed focus on strengthening Liberia’s disease surveillance and response systems, an area in which NPHIL plays a critical national role.
President Boakai’s move signals a commitment to restoring public trust and improving coordination within the agency that serves as the frontline of Liberia’s public health defense.
