President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has issued a proclamation declaring Wednesday, October 29, 2025, as “National Youth Day”, to be observed across the Republic of Liberia as a working holiday.
The proclamation calls on government ministries and agencies, international organizations, public corporations, and all citizens to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in organizing programs and activities that highlight the creativity, potential, and contributions of young Liberians.
According to the statement, the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders, will lead this year’s celebration under the theme:
“Recognizing the Gains; Building Resilience for Liberia’s Future.”
The national observance is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County, where youth from all 15 counties will converge to exchange ideas, showcase their talents, and reaffirm their commitment to national unity and service.
The President’s proclamation emphasizes that National Youth Day serves as an opportunity for both the Government and its citizens to renew their dedication to empowering young people through education, skills training, innovation, and leadership development, acknowledging their pivotal role in shaping Liberia’s future.
It further underscores the government’s recognition of the vital importance of youth in national life and the immense sacrifices they continue to make toward peace, progress, and development both locally and globally.
Established by an Act of the Legislature in 1969, October 29 has since been set aside each year as National Youth Day, a time to honor Liberia’s youth for their enduring contributions to the nation’s growth and stability.
