The Supreme Motorcycle Transport Union of Liberia, led by its President Trokon Grayginho Gray, popularly known as Yellow Machine, has called for the restriction or outright ban of all taxi drivers from entering central Monrovia.
The demand follows the recent killing of police officer Mark D. Bracewell, allegedly at the hands of a taxi driver. Gray insists that the Liberia National Police (LNP) must apply the same standard used against motorcyclists, who were previously barred from central Monrovia for “spoiling police checkpoints.”
“Justice must be equal. You can’t ban cyclists for damaging a police checkpoint but allow taxi drivers who kill an officer to continue operating freely. That’s unacceptable,” Gray stated.
He further accused the government of treating commercial motorcyclists unfairly, noting that many young Liberians depend on bike riding for survival due to the lack of stable employment opportunities.
“We are not stupid. We deserve to live happy lives too. Our children are out of school because of this wicked restriction on our cyclists,” he lamented, urging authorities to review the policy and ensure justice is applied equally to all.
