A procurement contractor at the Ministry of Agriculture, Sando S. Kromah, has been charged with statutory rape and committed to the Monrovia Central Prison following police investigations into the alleged assault of a 14-year-old girl in Vai Town.
According to the Liberia National Police, the Women and Children Protection Section conducted several days of investigation before arresting Kromah, who is accused of sexually abusing the minor. Under Liberian law, sexual assault involving a child is classified as statutory rape.
Kromah was formally charged on Wednesday and turned over to the Monrovia City Court, where a judge ordered his detention pending trial.
The case has heightened public concern amid ongoing calls for stronger enforcement of laws against sexual and gender-based violence in the country.
