Promising Liberian defender Sampson Dweh has committed his future to Viktoria Plzeň, signing a new contract that will keep him at the Czech club until 2029. The extension cements his place as a cornerstone of the team’s defensive lineup and underscores the club’s faith in his long-term potential.
Dweh’s journey with Viktoria Plzeň began in the summer of 2023, when he joined the club on a short trial. His solid defensive displays quickly earned him a one-year loan deal with an option to buy, which the club exercised after witnessing his steady growth and discipline on the pitch.
Since donning the club’s iconic red and blue jersey, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 115 appearances, including 36 in European competitions, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists, a remarkable record for a central defender. His consistency and leadership have played a vital role in keeping Viktoria Plzeň competitive both in the Czech league and across Europe.
Reflecting on his rise, Viktoria Plzeň’s sports director Daniel Kolář praised the Liberian international, saying:
“Sampson Dweh has made incredible progress with us in two years. He is an important element of our defense and has repeatedly demonstrated his qualities both in domestic competition and in Europe. He has our full trust, and this has now been reflected in the extension of his contract until 2029.”
Before earning his move to Europe, Dweh began his career with Pepper FC in Liberia’s third division before joining LPRC Oilers, where he won the domestic league title and featured in the CAF Champions League, showcasing his talent on the continental stage.
Dweh, who has also become a regular feature for the Liberian national team (Lone Star), is viewed by many as a future captain and a symbol of leadership for the next generation of Liberian footballers.
Expressing his gratitude after signing the new deal, Dweh said:
“I am happy in Viktoria, and I appreciate that the club trusts me so much. I will do my best for our common success.”
His contract renewal stands as another proud milestone for Liberian football, as Dweh continues to shine in Europe — inspiring young players back home to dream bigger and push harder toward international success.
