The Liberia Football Association (LFA), in collaboration with FIFA through the FIFA Forward Development Program, has officially inaugurated the newly renovated Gompa Pitch in Ganta. The ceremony, held on Monday, 29 September, underscores a renewed push to strengthen football infrastructure across Liberia.
The upgraded facility now features a FIFA-approved, standard-size artificial playing surface, ready to host a range of LFA competitions, including grassroots tournaments. Renovation efforts also brought significant improvements to the stadium, including floodlights, an underground sprinkler system, enhanced fencing, and covered spectator stands.
Speaking at the inauguration, LFA President Mustapha Raji thanked FIFA for its ongoing support and acknowledged the cooperation of local authorities and football stakeholders throughout the renovation process.
“When we assumed leadership in 2018, we promised to promote football development, decentralize the game, and ensure transparency and good governance. Today, the results are visible. Football in Liberia is growing, and with continued patience and investment, our national teams have a brighter future ahead,” Raji said.

FIFA Development Manager for West and Central Africa, El Hadji Diop, also lauded Liberia’s progress under the Forward Programme, calling the Gompa Pitch “a symbol of collective effort.” He emphasized that football development relies on three key pillars, infrastructure, coaching, and competitions, and highlighted the shared responsibility of FIFA, the LFA, and the government in nurturing the sport.
Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono praised the LFA for its dedication to youth engagement through football, while House Speaker Richard Koon commended the LFA’s role in promoting national unity and assured legislative support for continued sports infrastructure investment.

The Gompa Pitch stands as a testament to Liberia’s commitment to advancing football and creating opportunities for young athletes nationwide.
