The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), through its Special Drug Squad, has arrested a 70-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Lucy S. Morris for alleged drug trafficking following a targeted operation in the Township of West Point.
According to the LDEA, the operation was based on credible intelligence that led officers to a stash of the narcotic substance “Kush,” valued at over one million Liberian dollars (L$1,000,000). The drugs were reportedly concealed in nine small mineral water bottles.
The suspect is currently being interrogated and processed for onward submission to court, in line with the Amended Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023.
The Agency reiterated its ongoing commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the spread of illicit substances across Liberia. It noted that intensified operations are being carried out nationwide to bring traffickers and their collaborators to justice.
Meanwhile, the LDEA has cautioned the public to remain alert and report any suspicious drug-related activities within their communities. It also revealed that drug traffickers are increasingly using motorcycles and tricycles (kekehs) to move illegal substances in an effort to avoid detection.
The Agency emphasized that it remains fully determined to intercept and break down such evolving criminal methods as part of its national anti-drug campaign.
