The Ministry of Health (MOH) has sounded an alarm over a rising wave of seasonal flu infections nationwide, with Montserrado County recording the highest number of cases.
In its latest advisory, the Ministry disclosed that symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, body aches, sneezing, and fatigue are increasingly being reported at health facilities.
Health authorities warned that children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people living with chronic illnesses, including asthma, diabetes, and heart disease, are at greater risk of complications from the flu.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Catherine Thomas-Cooper assured the public that the government has intensified disease surveillance, launched health awareness campaigns, and strengthened collaboration with the Ministry of Education to promote preventive actions in schools.
The Ministry further urged citizens to remain cautious by seeking medical care when sick, avoiding public gatherings while symptomatic, wearing face masks, and maintaining good hygiene through frequent handwashing and surface disinfection.
In its concluding appeal, the Ministry encouraged Liberians to “adhere strictly to preventive measures to safeguard their health, protect their families, and keep their communities safe.”
