The Food Authority of Liberia (FAL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, has announced an immediate nationwide recall of Tasty Tom Tomato Mix, a product manufactured by Nutrifoods Ghana Limited in Accra, Ghana.
The recall order comes after multiple food safety breaches were uncovered during joint inspections and laboratory tests conducted by the Food and Drug Authority of Ghana (FDA), the Liberia Standard Authority (LISA/MOC), and the Food Authority of Liberia. Findings from these tests confirmed that several batches of the tomato mix were unsafe for consumption, containing:
Excessive levels of benzoic acid Undeclared additives Mold contamination above Codex and ARSO standards High salt content Erasable expiration dates Missing batch numbers and barcodes
Authorities say these violations classify the product as adulterated and contaminated food under Liberia’s Public Health Law (Title 33, Section 26.2) and other governing acts, including Sections 39.4 and 39.6 of the Ministry of Health Act (2017) and Chapter 12 of the Food Authority Act (2019).

Immediate Actions Ordered
All vendors, supermarkets, and distributors are to remove the affected product from shelves and storage with immediate effect. Consumers who have already purchased Tasty Tom Tomato Mix are strongly advised not to consume it and to return it to the point of purchase. Importers and wholesalers must report quantities in stock and begin return arrangements right away.
Inspection teams have been dispatched across the country to verify compliance and ensure that the recalled products are properly disposed of.
For reporting and assistance, the public can contact the FAL Hotline at +231-888-286-017 or visit the Food Authority Office at the Old Ministry of Health on Capitol Bye-Pass, Monrovia.
The FAL noted that a traceability audit is currently underway to identify how the contaminated product entered the market. The agency has warned that non-compliance with the recall order could lead to penalties under Chapter 54 of the Food Act of 2019.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Food Authority of Liberia stated:
“The safety of the Liberian people remains our top priority. We urge all citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate as we work to safeguard public health and ensure food safety nationwide.”
