The Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) has issued a bold warning following a violent confrontation with officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) that led to the arrest of its Militant Brigade Chairman.
According to SUP, their leader was handcuffed by police but later freed after militants allegedly overpowered the officers and rescued him. The group claims their Brigade Chairman, whom they compared to “five thousand US Marines,” fought alongside other members to break free, leaving the scene still in handcuffs.
In an interview with DN News, SUP’s Propaganda Chairman, Emmanuel “Polay” Nyan, condemned the police action. He argued that their members had already peacefully dispersed from a protest before the arrests occurred, insisting that the LNP acted without justification.
As a response, SUP vowed to retaliate by arresting and handcuffing Inspector General Gregory Coleman, threatening to hand him over to the international community on allegations of human rights abuses.
The standoff has heightened tensions between the student movement and state security forces, raising fresh concerns about potential escalation.
