President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has officially appointed Samuel A. Stevquoah as the new Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, following the passing of Sylvester Grisby last month after a long illness.
Stevquoah, a seasoned administrator with an extensive background in both government and the private sector, previously served as Minister of State Without Portfolio for Special Services. In that capacity, he was responsible for overseeing select presidential projects, contributing to national policy formulation, assessing government programs, coordinating with ministries and agencies, and representing the presidency at major national and international platforms.
His long history of public service is highlighted by his 12-year tenure as Chief of Staff to then Vice President Boakai between 2006 and 2017. During this period, he managed day-to-day operations of the Vice President’s office, served as chief spokesperson, represented the office at high-level engagements, and played a hands-on role in areas such as speechwriting, policy coordination, and agricultural initiatives.
After leaving public service in 2017, Stevquoah transitioned to the private sector, taking on senior leadership positions with a multinational company from 2018 until 2024. His portfolio there included Corporate Services, Government Affairs, and Community Relations. He was also instrumental in coordinating the company’s COVID-19 response during the global health crisis.
Before his senior administrative career, Stevquoah worked in journalism, starting with ELWA and later moving to the Liberia Broadcasting System, where he rose through the ranks from Action News Reporter to News Director, and eventually Assistant Director General for News & Public Affairs.
Academically, he holds a Master of Arts in Administration from Framingham State College in Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the United Methodist University, where he graduated with top honors. In addition, he has completed several specialized professional training programs.
President Boakai’s choice reflects a continuation of his reliance on trusted aides with deep experience in governance and institutional management.
