The ongoing murder trial of defendant Bill Jallah took an emotional turn on Tuesday at the Temple of Justice when Jallah himself stepped into the witness box to testify before Criminal Assizes “B.”
Jallah, who faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault, was cleared by the presiding judge to serve as his own first witness after a motion from his defense team. With the court clerk confirming the order, he was officially allowed to speak directly in his own defense.
Currently held at the Monrovia Central Prison, Jallah appeared visibly shaken as he addressed the court. While admitting that he could not recall every detail of the incident that led to the death of a young woman named Princess, he took full responsibility and offered a tearful apology.
“I want to use this time to apologize to the Government of Liberia and to this Honorable Court,” he said, voice heavy with emotion. “I am especially sorry to Princess’s mother, Ma-Mad, for taking your daughter’s life. To her son Eddie, her brother Isaac, and the Wesseh and Zoe families, I ask for your forgiveness. I know that words cannot replace what was lost, but I beg this court for mercy.”
His statement drew attention across the courtroom, where family members and observers listened intently.
With Jallah’s testimony concluded, the trial now heads toward its closing phase. Both prosecution and defense are preparing their final arguments, after which the jury will decide Jallah’s fate. The case continues to attract significant public interest as Liberians await the verdict.
