A shocking act of child abuse has left residents of New Georgia Estate Gulf Community, Block B, outraged after a young girl had part of her finger cut off on Tuesday evening.
The victim, identified as Georgina, was reportedly attacked by a woman, the wife of a her uncle who is a local pastor, after being accused of causing a neighbor’s baby to fall while playing. Witnesses say the woman grabbed the girl and used a knife to cut off part of her pointer finger in what has been described as a brutal and deliberate punishment.
Residents allege that Georgina, who is her husband’s niece, has faced repeated mistreatment, including severe punishments, frequent hunger, and being locked inside the house while the woman went out to socialize. Community members describe this incident as the latest act in a pattern of cruelty.
“Why would someone treat their own brother’s daughter this way?” asked Gifty Goodrich, a local resident. “Cutting her finger is beyond punishment, it is pure wickedness.”
Georgina was rushed to a nearby health facility, where she is receiving treatment. Police later arrested the woman and her husband, who authorities say were attempting to shield her following the attack. Both are currently in custody for further investigation.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from the community, with residents demanding swift legal action. Many describe the woman’s actions as inhumane and have called for accountability, highlighting the need to protect children from abuse.
The Liberia National Police confirmed the arrest of the couple and assured residents that the case is being taken seriously and will proceed through the legal process.
