Former campaign spokesperson of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, has publicly thrown his weight behind President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and the Unity Party government.
Gbala’s meeting with the President took place at Boakai’s farm in Bomi County, a development that has raised eyebrows given his long-standing ties to the CDC.
Sharing details of the encounter on Facebook, Gbala expressed his full commitment to the administration’s success.
“Yesterday, at his farm in Bomi County, we were honored to meet with the Father of the Nation, H.E. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia. During this engagement, we reiterated/reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring the SUCCESS of the JNB-led government, because when the government succeeds, the Liberian people are better served,” he wrote.
Before his sit-down with the President, Gbala also met separately with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon. His recent political activities have sparked widespread debate, with many speculating whether he is preparing to switch allegiance from the CDC to the ruling Unity Party.
Analysts see his stance as a possible sign of shifting alliances within Liberia’s political landscape. Gbala, however, has pushed back against such claims, stating that he now considers himself a “Centrist” who prioritizes national development over partisan loyalty.
His backing of President Boakai comes at a critical moment when the administration faces mounting pressure to deliver on governance and reform promises. Observers suggest his move could alter dynamics within the CDC, where Gbala once played a major role as a frontline campaign voice.
