Police have charged Fobay Emery Johnson, a 44-year-old instructor at the University of Liberia Graduate School, with armed robbery in connection to an incident at EcoBank Liberia on August 6, 2025. He has since been forwarded to the Monrovia City Court for prosecution.
According to police, Johnson, a resident of Duport Road in Paynesville, was apprehended inside the bank by security personnel before being handed over to the Liberia National Police’s Anti-Robbery Unit for investigation.
Authorities say Johnson entered EcoBank’s Private Banking Room wearing a nose mask and a cold-weather hood to conceal his identity. Once inside, he allegedly closed the office door, pulled a single-barrel shotgun from his black backpack, and pointed it at Angeline L. Sillah, a 33-year-old bank staff member.
Investigators reported that Johnson demanded cash stored in the office and engaged in a physical struggle with the victim for nearly ten minutes. He also attempted to seal her mouth with duct tape he had brought, but the victim resisted and managed to press the alarm button. Colleagues quickly intervened, restraining him until police arrived.
CCTV footage reportedly captures Johnson entering the room, retrieving the firearm, and threatening the victim.

During questioning, Johnson admitted to purchasing the shotgun in Ganta, Nimba County, for USD 60 but claimed it was for personal protection.
The case has now been transferred to court, where Johnson will face formal prosecution for the alleged offense.
