The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has announced plans to hold a mass meeting at its headquarters in Congo Town this Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., directly challenging a court-ordered eviction scheduled to take place the same day.
The Liberia National Police (LNP) had earlier confirmed that it would enforce a writ of possession issued by the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, mandating the removal of the CDC from the property it has occupied for nearly two decades. The dispute stems from a protracted legal battle over ownership of the land.
Despite the warning, CDC Chairman Janga Kowo declared that the party will not back down. Addressing supporters, Kowo described the eviction as an intimidation tactic meant to silence Liberia’s largest opposition force.
“We respect the rule of law, but we will not be bullied into silence,” Kowo said. He insisted that the dispute remains a civil matter still under litigation, stressing that the case has not reached final adjudication.
The party maintains that it will continue to seek justice through the courts while mobilizing its supporters to resist what it calls a premature eviction.
The clash sets the stage for a dramatic confrontation between law enforcement authorities, armed with a court mandate, and a political party that has vowed to stand its ground.
As the deadline draws closer, many Liberians are watching anxiously. Will the police move forward with the eviction as ordered, or will the CDC’s defiance reshape the unfolding legal storm?
