A Swedish court has sentenced former Liberia international footballer Dulee Johnson to seven months in prison for assault, molestation, and arbitrary conduct, according to a report by Göteborgs-Posten.
The conviction relates to an incident that occurred during the spring of last year (March to May), where Johnson was found guilty of assaulting and molesting a woman. The charge of arbitrary conduct was added after he reportedly came across and mishandled valuables during the commission of the crimes.
The Göta Court of Appeal, located in western Sweden, handed down the sentence. In addition to serving seven months, Johnson has been ordered to pay 35,000 Swedish Kronor (approximately US$3,665.50) in compensation to the victim. He will also remain in custody until his sentence is fully served.
Despite the conviction, Johnson has denied any wrongdoing and retains the right to appeal the ruling to a higher Swedish court.
Once regarded as one of Liberia’s brightest midfield talents, Johnson played for clubs in Sweden, Greece, Israel, and South Africa, and earned several caps for the Lone Star national team.
