In a continued push for institutional reform and competent leadership in the public sector, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has appointed Dr. Augurie Stevens as Acting Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS).
Dr. Stevens, who most recently served as Vice President for Academic Support Services at the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU), was selected based on a unanimous recommendation by the MCSS Council. Her appointment underscores the Boakai administration’s confidence in her qualifications and commitment to improving education delivery in Liberia.
The move follows the recent suspension of former MCSS Superintendent James A.S. Momoh amid serious allegations of financial misconduct, marking a critical transition for the country’s largest public school system.
In line with the new appointment, Dr. Stevens’ tenure on the Board of the National Commission on Higher Education has officially concluded. President Boakai extended gratitude for her service in that capacity and urged her to maintain the same standard of excellence in her new leadership role at MCSS.

“This appointment reflects my administration’s vision to strengthen institutional performance and accelerate national development through capable and trusted leadership,” President Boakai said.
The President emphasized that the appointment takes immediate effect, and called on all public officials to uphold the values of diligence, integrity, professionalism, and loyalty in the service of the nation.
Dr. Stevens is widely regarded as an academic leader with deep experience in education management, and her new role at MCSS is expected to usher in a renewed focus on administrative discipline, transparency, and student-centered reforms.
