LONDON — Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police Service. The charges span alleged incidents involving three women, and are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed on Thursday that it had authorized the charges following a detailed investigation.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives,” the CPS said in a statement.
“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, One count of sexual assault.”
According to police, two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three to a second woman, while the single count of sexual assault involves a third woman.
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2025.
The charges come just weeks after Partey’s departure from Arsenal. The Ghanaian international, who joined the Premier League club from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for £45 million, left Arsenal at the beginning of July following the expiration of his contract. He made 113 appearances for the North London club over four seasons.
