A group of prominent lawmakers has been officially summoned to appear at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police on Friday, June 6, as part of an ongoing investigation into the recent arson attack on the Capitol Building.
Representatives Jonathan Fonati Koffa (Grand Kru County), Prescillia Cooper (District #1, Montserrado), Dixon Seboe (District #16, Montserrado), Marvin Cole (Bong County), Jacob Debee (District #3, Grand Gedeh), Frank Saah Foko (District #9, Montserrado), and Abu Kamara (District #15, Montserrado) have all been named as “persons of interest” in connection with the probe.
The announcement was formally made on Thursday during the House’s regular session, following a communication from Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman. The letter was read on the House floor by Chief Clerk Mildred Siryon, sparking murmurs across the chamber as the gravity of the situation became evident.
While the specifics surrounding each lawmaker’s connection to the case remain undisclosed, the decision to summon sitting members of the legislature underscores the seriousness of the investigation and the police’s intent to leave no stone unturned.
The Capitol Building, the symbolic heart of Liberia’s democracy, was the target of a mysterious arson attack last month. Though no casualties were reported, the incident triggered public outrage and heightened demands for accountability and transparency.

Inspector General Coleman’s letter reportedly described the scheduled meeting as “critical to ongoing efforts to uncover the truth surrounding the attack and hold all responsible parties accountable.”
As of press time, none of the lawmakers had issued public statements regarding their summons. However, legislative sources suggest that some of them may challenge the procedure, citing constitutional protections and the need for due process.
This development adds further political tension to an already heated legislative season, as the country continues to grapple with questions of governance, integrity, and security.
The Liberia National Police has not yet disclosed whether additional individuals will be summoned or whether formal charges are imminent.
