The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Liberia National Police, has announced the immediate enforcement of a nationwide ban on all street parades linked to school celebrations, including Gala Day events, graduations, and WASSCE-related festivities.
The decision, made public at a joint press conference on Wednesday, comes amid growing concerns over student safety, public disturbances, and continued violations of the Ministry’s 2024–2025 academic guidelines.

Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah cited multiple incidents in which unsanctioned street parades disrupted traffic, endangered students, and triggered public complaints across several counties.
“This is not a ban on celebration itself,” Dr. Jallah clarified. “We are simply urging school communities to conduct these events in safe, organized environments, like stadiums, town halls, or open fields. rather than the streets.”
She stressed that school administrators, parents, and students must comply with the directive, noting that violations would lead to legal consequences. Enforcement will be led by the Liberia National Police, under the command of Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman, who also spoke at the briefing.
Both the Ministry and the LNP reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring student safety and maintaining public order as the academic year progresses.
