The Sanniquellie City Magisterial Court has remanded 45-year-old Augustine Gaye to the Sanniquellie Central Prison for allegedly murdering a Burkinabe national, Badu Abulie, in the dense forest of Dewoblee, Kparblee District, Lower Nimba County.
The tragic incident occurred on May 14, 2025, when Abulie, a foreign laborer, was reportedly cooking for fellow workers in the forest when he was suddenly shot and killed with a single-barrel gun.
Local residents of Old Yourpea were swift in pointing fingers at Augustine Gaye, alleging that he had gone hunting with a firearm that day and returned without it. Their suspicion deepened due to what they described as ongoing tensions between Gaye and the group of Burkinabe laborers working in the area.
Though Gaye has denied the allegations and claimed he no longer owned a firearm, police investigators say otherwise. Their findings not only contradicted his statements but also unearthed a history of conflict between him and the deceased’s group.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Gaye was officially charged with murder and made his first appearance in court. Following a preliminary hearing, the court ordered that he be remanded at the Sanniquellie Central Prison pending further legal proceedings.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many calling for justice in what they believe was a targeted and unprovoked killing.
As the case unfolds, residents and human rights observers are urging the government to ensure a fair and transparent judicial process while also enhancing protection for foreign workers across the country.
Developing story.
