The Government of Liberia has issued a strong rebuke against Bomi County Senator Edwin Snowe, condemning what it describes as “irresponsible and inflammatory” remarks allegedly made by the lawmaker and member of the ECOWAS Parliament.
According to an official statement released Friday by the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Senator Snowe is accused of vowing to leverage his influence within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to derail the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
The statement cites Senator Snowe as declaring that he would “do everything possible including using his connections in ECOWAS to make the Boakai-led government to fail, even if it means discouraging foreign direct investment to Liberia and making the country ungovernable and unstable until he, Snowe, becomes President of Liberia.”
Calling the alleged comments a direct threat to Liberia’s peace and governance, the Boakai administration said it is deeply alarmed that a sitting senator and international representative would openly advocate for the destabilization of the country for personal political gain.
“The Government of Liberia reminds Mr. Snowe and other officials, who may hold similar thought, that no citizen is licensed to undermine his/her own country and government by vowing to use ECOWAS internal institutions or other international organizations to either promote their selfish ambitions or plot destabilization,” the government’s release said.

The administration is calling on ECOWAS and all regional and international bodies to take the matter seriously and ensure that any alleged plot to destabilize Liberia is thwarted. The statement emphasized Liberia’s longstanding commitment to peace, security, and economic cooperation across the sub-region and the African continent.
“Liberia continues to remain a champion of peace, security and economic integration within the Mano River Union (MRU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Union (AU) and the broader international system,” the statement added.
In closing, the Government reassured the Liberian people of its readiness to fulfill its constitutional obligations, safeguard national stability, and prevent any attempts to plunge the country into chaos. It urged citizens to stand in unity and support the administration’s efforts to build a stable and prosperous Liberia.
The statement was signed by the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism. Senator Snowe has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
