The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) has announced plans to bestow the Bishop George D. Brown Hall of Fame Award on House Speaker Richard Koon, citing his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to national development.
The honor, which will be presented this Friday, stands as one of the Council’s most prestigious recognitions. It celebrates public figures whose actions reflect the values of peace, unity, and transformative governance, principles championed by the late Bishop George D. Brown, a founding figure of the LCC.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, the Council hailed Speaker Koon for his dedication to peacebuilding, fostering national unity, and championing key governance reforms during his time at the helm of the House of Representatives.

Beyond the award ceremony, the LCC has also extended a formal invitation to the entire House leadership to participate in a Special Thanksgiving and Prayer Service scheduled for May 31, 2025. According to the Council, this spiritual gathering aims to publicly acknowledge the Legislature’s role in helping to restore calm during a recent internal political impasse.
The upcoming events mark a rare moment of harmony between Liberia’s religious and political institutions and underscore a growing push for ethical leadership amid the nation’s post-conflict recovery and democratic consolidation.
Speaker Koon’s recognition by the LCC comes at a time when public trust in governance is being tested, and the gesture is expected to spark national conversation around the role of the Church in promoting good leadership and moral accountability.
More details on the award ceremony and the May 31st prayer service are expected to be released by the Council in the coming days.
