In a move shaking up the local football scene, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has suspended Grace Hawa Weah, President of powerhouse women’s club Determine Girls, for a full year following what the LFA deems a breach of conduct tied to a controversial social media post after the 2024 LFA Awards.
The suspension, effective immediately, bars Weah from participating in any football-related activities until May 2026. According to the LFA, her action violated Chapter 4, Article 4, Count (oc) of its Rules and Regulations, which governs stakeholder conduct.
While the LFA didn’t detail the contents of the post, insiders say Weah’s remarks, reportedly expressing dissatisfaction with award outcomes, were considered inflammatory and disrespectful to the governing body and the football community.

Grace Hawa Weah, popularly known in football circles as “Master Queen”, has long been a vocal figure and a strong advocate for women’s football in Liberia. Under her leadership, Determine Girls have dominated the local league and represented Liberia on the continental stage. Her suspension now throws the club’s immediate future into a swirl of uncertainty.
In the same announcement, the LFA also suspended Match Commissioner Faustina Doe, who is accused of refusing to appear before the Grievance and Disciplinary Committee in connection with alleged unethical behavior. His suspension will remain in force until he faces the committee to clear his name.
“The integrity of our football is paramount,” the LFA stated, “and adherence to the established rules and ethical standards is essential for maintaining a fair and respectful environment for all stakeholders.”
The decision to suspend Weah has sparked mixed reactions in the football community. While some applaud the LFA’s firm stance on discipline, others believe the association must find better ways to engage with stakeholders and address grievances without outright suspension.
For now, the woman who once stood tall at the forefront of women’s football in Liberia will watch the game from the sidelines, silent, but not forgotten.
