The United States Department of State has announced that 2,004 Liberians have been selected as winners of the 2025 Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, a significant increase from previous years.
The DV Lottery program, established to diversify the immigrant population in the United States, randomly selects applicants from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S. Liberia remains one of the eligible countries.
According to the U.S. Embassy near Monrovia, while selection in the lottery is a major step, it does not guarantee the issuance of a visa. Selected individuals must still complete several additional steps, including submitting supporting documents, undergoing medical examinations, attending interviews, and meeting all eligibility requirements.

The final deadline for completing the immigration process is September 30, 2025.
In a public advisory, the U.S. Embassy also warned applicants to be cautious of fraudulent schemes. “The only reliable source for Diversity Visa information is the official DV program website at dvprogram.state.gov,” the embassy stated. “Applicants should avoid anyone or any website promising special assistance or charging fees for expedited services.”
The announcement has triggered widespread excitement among Liberians, many of whom view the DV program as an opportunity for better educational, economic, and living conditions abroad.
The Diversity Visa Program typically selects up to 55,000 individuals globally each year.
Further guidance for selected applicants is available through the official program portal.
