A heartbreaking case of domestic violence has shocked the community of Zeors Town in Margibi County after a 43-year-old man, Francis Koiyan, allegedly killed his girlfriend, Hannah Karto, following a dispute over an empty palm wine container.
The incident, which has left residents in disbelief, unfolded when Karto reportedly refused to return Koiyan’s palm wine container. According to police investigations, Karto had gone into the bush to purchase palm wine when an enraged Koiyan followed her, demanding the container. What began as a petty argument quickly turned deadly.
Witnesses say Koiyan violently attacked Karto, punching and manhandling her until she collapsed. In a horrifying act, he then allegedly bound her hands behind her back with a lapper (a piece of cloth), stuffed her head into her own underpants, and abandoned her in the bush. The brutal assault left Karto unconscious, and she later succumbed to her injuries.
Local authorities swiftly arrested Koiyan, who now faces charges of murder and aggravated assault. He has been forwarded to the Monrovia City Court and is expected to be held at Monrovia Central Prison pending trial.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and sorrow among community members, many of whom are struggling to comprehend how a simple disagreement could escalate into such a vicious crime. Domestic violence remains a pressing issue in Liberia, and advocates are calling for stronger measures to protect vulnerable individuals from abusive partners.
As the case proceeds, friends and family of Hannah Karto mourn the loss of a woman whose life was cut short over something as trivial as an empty container. Meanwhile, the justice system will now determine the fate of Francis Koiyan, whose alleged actions have left a community grieving and demanding accountability.
