A man accused of posing as a doctor and performing surgery on a patient who later died has been charged with manslaughter, sparking outrage and raising concerns about medical fraud in Liberia.
Sam Worlobah, who allegedly presented himself as a medical doctor and administrator at Lofa Medics Clinic in the Neezoe community, is now in custody after the death of 38-year-old Samuel P. Kollie. The incident has left Kollie’s family grieving and authorities scrambling to prevent similar tragedies.
According to court documents, Kollie visited the clinic on March 18, 2025, complaining of severe abdominal pain. Worlobah allegedly diagnosed him with appendicitis and Hepatitis-B, conditions requiring urgent, expert care. Despite having no recognized medical credentials, Worlobah proceeded to perform surgery on Kollie and administered multiple injections.
The following day, March 19, Kollie died while still under observation at the clinic. His family, initially unaware of Worlobah’s lack of qualifications, was left in shock.
The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) later confirmed that Worlobah was not a licensed surgeon and that Lofa Medics Clinic was not authorized to conduct surgeries. Further investigations exposed that Worlobah had been impersonating a medical professional, putting countless lives at risk.
“This is a clear case of medical fraud with devastating consequences,” said a spokesperson for the LMDC. “We urge the public to always verify the credentials of healthcare providers before seeking treatment.”
Worlobah was swiftly arrested and charged with manslaughter, appearing before the Paynesville City Magisterial Court. If convicted, he could face severe penalties under Liberian law.

Meanwhile, Kollie’s family is demanding justice. “We trusted this man with my brother’s life,” said a grieving relative. “How many others has he deceived? This should never happen again.”
The case has reignited calls for stricter regulation of medical facilities and harsher punishments for impersonators. Health officials are advising citizens to seek care only at government-approved hospitals and clinics and to verify doctors’ licenses through the LMDC.
As Worlobah awaits trial, the tragic death of Samuel P. Kollie serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by unqualified individuals masquerading as medical professionals.
