In a display of sheer dominance, Determine Girls have once again cemented their legacy as Liberia’s most formidable women’s football team, securing their fifth straight LFA Upper Women’s League championship with a resounding 7-1 victory over Kneeling Warriors at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
The match was nothing short of a spectacle, with Guinean international Bountou Sylla stealing the spotlight by netting four goals. Her stellar performance was complemented by strikes from Jessica Quachie, Ruggy Joof, and Mbassey Daboe, sealing yet another triumphant season for the champions.
Under the guidance of Coach Robert Larteh, Determine Girls have now won the league title every season since the 2020/21 campaign, establishing an unprecedented dynasty in Liberian women’s football.
With the league title secured, the team now sets its sights on completing a historic double as they prepare to face World Girls in the Orange Cup final on April 20, 2025. A victory would cap off a perfect season and further solidify their status as the nation’s premier women’s football club.
By tradition, Determine Girls will represent Liberia in the upcoming West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone-A Women’s Championship, marking their fifth appearance in the regional tournament. Despite only advancing past the preliminary stage once in their previous four attempts, the team remains determined to make a stronger impact this time around.
Bountou Sylla’s four-goal haul against Kneeling Warriors propelled her to 24 goals for the season, placing her second in the league’s scoring chart. However, she still trails Miatta Morris of Shaita Angels, who leads with an impressive 30 goals from 20 matches.
In the LFA Men’s Division, FC Fassell took a giant step toward clinching the title after a 4-0 demolition of Shaita FC, courtesy of a brace from Mark Yallah. The “Soccer Missionaries” now sit comfortably at the summit with 50 points, nine ahead of second-placed Heaven Eleven, who edged LPRC Oilers 1-0.
Elsewhere, Mighty Barrolle suffered a 3-2 defeat to Global Pharma, while Paynesville FC narrowly defeated Freeport FC 3-2. LISCR and Invincible Eleven played to a 1-1 draw, and Watanga FC and Blackman Warrior battled to a thrilling 3-3 stalemate.
As Determine Girls celebrate their fifth consecutive crown, their relentless pursuit of excellence continues to inspire a new generation of female footballers in Liberia. With the Orange Cup final and WAFU challenges ahead, the champions show no signs of slowing down.
For now, the streets of Monrovia will echo with cheers as the queens of Liberian football bask in yet another historic achievement.
