In a fiery statement that has sent shockwaves through Liberia’s political landscape, Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr., Chairperson of the advocacy group Solidarity And Trust For a New Day (STAND), has issued a blistering condemnation of President Joseph Boakai’s administration, accusing it of defying the rule of law and betraying the Liberian people.
Morlu’s strongly worded declaration, titled “Boakai Must Lead by Law, or Leave by the People’s Power!”, warns of a growing resistance against what he describes as “lawless governance” and “blood money corruption.”
At the heart of Morlu’s rebuke is the accusation that President Boakai has “declared war on the Constitution” by allegedly disregarding rulings from the Supreme Court. He argues that any actions taken in defiance of the judiciary are illegitimate, including the election of a new Speaker of the House, whom he labels a “traitor’s tool, bought and paid for with the blood money of corruption.”
“Every dollar of corruption is soaked in the blood of those who were left to suffer, starve, and die without healthcare, education, and food security,” Morlu writes, framing government corruption as a life-or-death issue for ordinary Liberians.
While stopping short of inciting violence, Morlu’s statement makes it clear that STAND and like-minded citizens will not tolerate what they see as an erosion of democracy. He invokes the legacy of Liberia’s past struggles, declaring:
“250,000 martyrs carved our path to freedom; no thief in power will ever turn us back!”
His message concludes with a stark ultimatum: If President Boakai and Vice President Koung refuse to govern within constitutional bounds, they must “RESIGN, or be driven out by mass, nonviolent uprising.”
The statement comes amid rising political tensions in Liberia, with opposition groups increasingly vocal about alleged government overreach. Morlu’s words, shared on his verified social media page (emphasized with a note that his account was “not hacked”), suggest a brewing showdown between the administration and civil society.
As Liberians await the government’s response, one thing is clear: The call for accountability is growing louder, and STAND’s leader has made it known that the people’s patience is wearing thin.
