On the evening of March 1, 2025, in the FDA community along the Mount Barclay highway, a senseless act of violence took the life of Dorcas Moibah, a hardworking and peaceful woman. Her neighbor, Cecelia Ballah, who had long harbored hostility toward Dorcas, carried out a brutal attack that ended Dorcas’ life in an instant. This tragic incident has left a family grieving and a community demanding justice.
Dorcas was known for her resilience and kindness. She spent her days caring for her sick mother and working tirelessly to provide for her family. Despite Cecelia’s constant attempts to provoke her, Dorcas always chose peace, avoiding conflict and focusing on her responsibilities. But Cecelia’s anger and jealousy only grew, culminating in a violent outburst that would change everything.
That evening, Dorcas had just returned from the Red Light Market, where she often went to work. She was sitting at home, sharing a meal with her mother, when Cecelia began hurling insults at her. Dorcas, as usual, remained calm, but her friend Sianneh stepped in to defend her. The argument quickly escalated when Cecelia’s husband joined in, wielding a kitchen knife and chasing Dorcas’ son, Peter.

In the chaos, Cecelia saw her chance to act on her long-standing threat. She grabbed Dorcas by the hair, dragged her into the gutter, and brutally attacked her. The force of the assault broke Dorcas’ ribs, disconnected her spinal cord, and caused the food she was eating to enter her head. She died instantly, leaving her family and community in shock.
Dorcas’ death is a heartbreaking reminder of the consequences of unchecked anger and hatred. Cecelia Ballah’s actions have left a family without a mother, a caregiver, and a friend. Now, the community is rallying together under the hashtag #JusticeForDorcas, calling on the Liberian government to ensure that Cecelia is held accountable for her crime.
