The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in Foya District, Lofa County has intercepted a massive drug shipment worth over $77,000. This operation, led by the LDEA and supported by joint security forces, highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking in the region.
On the evening of March 17, 2025, at around 10:45 PM, the Joint Security team received a crucial tip-off. A black pickup truck with Liberian license plate A533348 was reportedly transporting narcotics from Sierra Leone to Monrovia, passing through Lofa County. Acting swiftly on this information, the LDEA-led team intercepted the vehicle and escorted it to the Foya Police Station for a thorough inspection.

The driver, identified as Fayiah Lamie, a 43-year-old man from the Mande tribe and a resident of Monrovia, initially claimed he was only transporting clothes and slippers for sale. However, a detailed search of the vehicle revealed something far more sinister.
Authorities discovered a staggering 772 plates of high-grade marijuana, with an estimated street value of $77,200 USD (equivalent to 14,668,000 Liberian dollars). Additionally, they found 8 boxes of Tramadol, a powerful prescription painkiller often abused as a recreational drug, valued at $842 USD (equivalent to 160,000 Liberian dollars).

This interception is a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region. The street value of the seized drugs underscores the scale of the operation and the potential harm these substances could have caused if they had reached their destination. The arrest of Fayiah Lamie marks a crucial step in holding individuals accountable for their involvement in such illegal activities.

Fayiah Lamie has been arrested and is currently undergoing investigation. He is expected to be formally charged and sent to court, where he will face the legal consequences of his actions. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and the role of law enforcement in maintaining public safety.
This successful operation was made possible by the collaboration between the LDEA and the Joint Security forces, as well as the timely tip-off from a concerned citizen. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when communities and law enforcement work together to combat crime.
