Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Daniel Sando delivered a scathing critique of former President George Weah during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) on Thursday, accusing him of being out of touch with reality while dismissing allegations against the current government.
Sando’s remarks came in response to a recent Facebook post by Weah, in which the former president accused the Unity Party-led administration of undermining democracy and intimidating voters. Though Weah stated that he respects past election results to maintain peace, Sando argued that his claims were hypocritical, given his own administration’s record.
The Deputy Minister did not hold back, alleging that Weah had financed efforts to unlawfully remove Supreme Court justices during his presidency. He also raised questions about the unresolved deaths of professional auditors under Weah’s administration, suggesting a deliberate lack of accountability.
“Where are the audit reports? Why were these deaths never investigated?” Sando questioned, implying negligence, or worse, during Weah’s tenure.
Sando further accused the former president of selling Liberian passports to foreign nationals and drug traffickers for personal gain, a claim that has circulated in political circles for years. He also criticized Weah’s approach to public security, recalling his controversial suggestion that citizens install their own CCTV systems rather than the government strengthening national security infrastructure.

Drawing a sharp contrast between past and present leadership, Sando declared, “There is a new sheriff in town.” He highlighted ongoing national developments and the Central Bank’s operational independence as signs of progress under President Joseph Boakai’s administration.
“Former President Weah seems to be living in a state of Utopia,” Sando said. “He needs a reality check.”
In a biting analogy, the Deputy Minister added that Weah was “as forgetful as a mosquito,” suggesting that the ex-president had overlooked his own administration’s shortcomings while criticizing the current government and needs to be reminded on a daily basis.
Sando reiterated the Unity Party’s commitment to transparency and anti-corruption efforts, asserting that the current administration has outperformed its predecessor in governance and accountability.
