In a powerful speech delivered at Margibi University’s third graduation ceremony on February 22, 2025, President Joseph Boakai made a bold promise to Liberia’s future. He pledged his government’s full support in transforming Margibi University into a top-tier institution of higher learning. The president spoke passionately about his administration’s determination to enhance the university’s infrastructure and ensure its students receive a quality education that prepares them to contribute to Liberia’s growth.
One of the key points President Boakai emphasized was the need for partnerships with major corporations like Firestone and China Union. These companies, he believes, can play a crucial role in providing resources and support for the university. His vision is clear: a well-resourced Margibi University will offer students the tools they need to succeed and help drive the nation forward.

“Education is at the heart of Liberia’s transformation,” President Boakai told the gathering. “As a government, we will continue to seek the collaboration of local and international partners, including corporations such as Firestone and China Union, to ensure that Margibi University remains well-resourced for effective teaching and learning.”
The university’s recent elevation to full university status was also a significant milestone that President Boakai took a moment to acknowledge. However, he urged everyone not to become complacent. Instead, he stressed the importance of continuously investing in the university’s infrastructure, technology, and faculty development to keep academic standards high. “This achievement comes with an expectation of performance and output,” he warned.

He further addressed the issue of universities popping up across the country, reminding the audience that the Ministry of Education and the National Commission on Higher Education must ensure these institutions meet strict standards. It’s clear that President Boakai is committed to maintaining the quality of higher education in Liberia, and that means ensuring universities not only grow but grow in the right way.
The president also called for modernizing the university’s learning environment, highlighting the need for upgrades like a new library, better teaching resources, and advanced information technologies to improve students’ learning experiences.
For the graduating class, President Boakai’s words were inspiring. He reminded them that their success was not just a personal achievement but also a responsibility. “Your graduation today is more than a personal achievement; it is a milestone in the ongoing development of Margibi University and the education system of Liberia,” he told them.

As he concluded his address, President Boakai reassured everyone that his government would continue to work tirelessly to support the university. “We leave you with the assurance that our doors are open,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to helping Margibi University grow and excel.
The ceremony, attended by government officials, local authorities, university staff, and proud family members, was a celebration of both the graduates’ accomplishments and the bright future that lies ahead for Margibi University. With President Boakai’s bold vision, it’s clear that the university will play a key role in shaping the next generation of leaders and professionals in Liberia.
