Authorities have shut down Banjak Frozen Food in Paynesville and confiscated over 100 cartons of rotten frozen meat in a major crackdown on unsafe food practices. The Ministry of Justice, through its Deputy Director for Public Safety, John Bass Golokeh, led the operation at Bob Taylor Junction, where officials discovered expired and improperly stored frozen chicken, chicken feet, and imported meat.
For months, consumers have complained about the poor quality of frozen products sold by Banjak Frozen Food. Some customers reported a foul smell, strange texture, and even signs of spoilage in the meat they purchased. These reports triggered an investigation that ultimately led to this decisive action.
Deputy Director Golokeh made it clear that the government is not taking food safety lightly. “We have shut down this place, and those responsible will be prosecuted for selling these unsafe products to the Liberian people. The facility will stay locked until the contaminated meat is properly disposed of,” he stated.
This move by the Ministry of Justice is a wake-up call to food businesses operating carelessly and putting people’s health at risk. Authorities have emphasized that any business found violating food safety laws will face serious consequences, including shutdowns and legal actions.
Liberians are urged to be vigilant when buying frozen foods and report any suspicious-looking products to the authorities. This crackdown is part of a broader effort to ensure that citizens are consuming safe and properly stored food.
With this firm action, the government is sending a strong message: food safety is non-negotiable, and businesses that fail to meet health standards will not be tolerated.
