Rumors have been swirling around the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) and its CEO, Rustolyn Suacoco Dennis, with claims that she drives a $75,000 vehicle at the expense of the institution. But in a firm response, the CEO is setting the record straight.
First and foremost, Dennis clarifies that the official vehicle assigned to her does not cost $75,000. She acknowledges that her position is one of trust, handling highly sensitive information, and as such, it requires a level of operational security. For this reason, she does not share a single vehicle with her drivers, security personnel, or staffers, a standard practice for high-profile officials in Liberia and across the world.
Addressing the claims further, Dennis admits to having a utility vehicle for errands, a practical necessity for running a large institution. She explains that while this vehicle may occasionally be used on weekends or holidays, her official duties are carried out using the designated official vehicle.
Beyond the issue of transportation, the CEO took the opportunity to encourage young Liberians to focus on working together, rather than engaging in unnecessary conflicts. “Not everyone will be CEO at the same time,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and shared progress.

On the more serious allegation of financial misconduct, Dennis made it clear that she does not unilaterally sign company checks. Every financial transaction goes through a rigorous process, with checks requiring the signature of both the CEO and the Vice President of Finance. Additionally, all financial approvals are subject to scrutiny, making it nearly impossible for any single individual to manipulate company funds.
As for those expecting her to bow to pressure, Dennis had a defiant response, she will not “kowtow to powwow.” Her message is clear: leadership is not about succumbing to baseless allegations but about standing firm, maintaining transparency, and leading with integrity.
With these clarifications, the CEO of NOCAL has drawn the line, but the real question remains, will her critics accept her explanations, or will the debate rage on?
