Reports from Yekepa, Nimba County, paint a troubling picture of violence and destruction at ArcelorMittal Liberia’s Mount Yuelliton base camp. Late Wednesday night, a heavily armed gang launched a brutal attack on the mining facility, leaving security personnel battered and critical infrastructure severely damaged.
According to sources on the ground, the assailants stormed the base camp under the cover of darkness, overwhelming the security officers on duty. The attack was swift and ruthless, windows were shattered, battery compartments from excavators were forcibly removed, and offices were ransacked. The attackers also looted fuel oil, further compounding the losses suffered by the company.

Eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with security personnel outnumbered and left defenseless against the onslaught. Several officers suffered severe beatings, though details on the extent of their injuries remain unclear. The destruction left in the wake of this attack is not only a blow to ArcelorMittal Liberia but also raises serious concerns about security in the mining region.
