Lofa County has been gripped by unrest following two tragic incidents that have left the community on edge. On New Year’s Eve, the death of a 47-year-old woman sparked outrage, leading to an angry mob allegedly setting the Zogolemai Magisterial Court ablaze. Magistrate Josephine Zogbaye confirmed the incident, revealing that her colleagues, including Magistrate Ben B. Blamah Sr., were forced to flee for their safety.
In a heartfelt message, Magistrate Zogbaye expressed her concerns, writing:
“An angry crowd has allegedly set the Zogolemai Magisterial Court in Lofa County on fire following the death of a 45-year-old woman on New Year’s Eve. Our colleagues, including Magistrate Ben B. Blamah Sr., are at risk and on the run for their safety. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, Your Honor.”

The situation escalated further with the death of one of the suspects in the killing of a 47-year-old woman in Duogomai Town on December 31, 2023. The suspect, who was in police custody in Voinjama, was found dead in his cell. Reports suggest he allegedly took his own life by hanging himself with knotted pieces of clothing.
This tragic twist has only fueled suspicions and anger. Many believe the suspect’s death is connected to what they suspect was a ritualistic killing of the 47-year-old woman. As news of his death spread, tensions flared in Duogomai Town, where several houses were reportedly set ablaze overnight.
The community remains on edge, with fears of further violence and reprisals. County authorities have urged calm amid the chaos, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the incidents.
These developments highlight the deep-seated challenges facing Lofa County, where rumors, mistrust, and a lack of faith in the justice system have fueled unrest. As investigations continue, many hope for justice and peace to prevail in a region that has seen too much tragedy in recent days.
This is a developing story, and we will provide updates as new information emerges.
