A tragic accident took place on the Ganta-Gbarnga Highway near Kpein Junction in the early hours of the morning, resulting in the deaths of three people. The crash occurred around midnight when a Mack truck, heavily loaded with plantains and various other goods, veered off the road just five minutes outside Ganta City. The vehicle, with license plate C3983, was en route to Monrovia.
Eyewitnesses report that two female passengers and one male passenger died instantly in the crash. However, the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, with authorities from the Liberia National Police’s Traffic Division, Nimba Detachment, yet to release their findings. Initial reports suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep, leading the truck off course and resulting in the fatal collision. The driver’s location is currently unknown.
The unfortunate accident underscores the increasing number of road fatalities on the Ganta-Monrovia Highway. Since the highway’s paving, accidents have surged, which some attribute to inadequate road safety education for drivers, while others point to excessive speeding along the new road.
Improving road safety education, enforcing strict traffic laws, and conducting regular patrols on high-traffic routes could be pivotal in reducing these tragic incidents. Each accident serves as a reminder of the critical need for safer driving practices and more vigilant road monitoring.
