The Supreme Court has directed legislators who are attempting to remove Speaker J. Fonati Koffa to return to the House chamber and conduct their business lawfully and with proper procedures. This decision came during a conference led by Associate Justice Yormie Gbeisay.
Cllr. H. Varney Sherman, representing the group opposing Koffa, admitted that the process for removing the Speaker has not yet been formally initiated. He acknowledged that without these proceedings, Koffa remains in his position, making any attempts to prohibit him from his duties premature.
On the other side, Cllr. Syrennius Cephas and former Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh represented Speaker Koffa, advocating for adherence to due process as outlined in Article 49 of the Constitution.
After the conference, Representative Foday Fahnbulleh addressed reporters outside the Temple of Justice, stating that they will begin the due process for Koffa’s removal in a joint session of the Legislature.
This situation is still unfolding, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
