President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has nominated Mr. Anthony Suoh as the new Director General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA). This nomination follows the recent investigation into the “acts of disorder and chaos” that shook the LDEA headquarters in June, casting a shadow on an agency meant to be a pillar of public safety and order. While Suoh’s appointment awaits confirmation by the Liberian Senate, it’s clear that President Boakai intends to steer the agency in a new direction—one that prioritizes stability, professionalism, and accountability.

This shift comes after President Boakai made the decisive choice to relieve Colonel Abraham Kromah, Mr. Hassan Fadiga, and Mr. Gbawou Kowou from their roles as Director General, Deputy Director General for Operations, and Deputy Director General for Administration, respectively. The dismissals came in response to findings submitted by the Ministry of Justice, which investigated the concerning events at the LDEA’s headquarters on June 3. Speaking out against the disruption, President Boakai noted, “The acts of disorder and chaos that took place at the headquarters of the LDEA were unacceptable.” The President made it clear that incidents like these not only threaten public peace but also erode the very foundation of the country’s anti-drug efforts.

For President Boakai, this is about more than reshuffling leadership; it’s a call to action for all government officials to embody the values of diligence, commitment, integrity, professionalism, and loyalty. As Liberia grapples with complex challenges in drug enforcement and public safety, these values are essential for rebuilding public confidence in the institutions meant to protect and serve.

Anthony Suoh’s nomination brings hope and anticipation, as citizens look to see if he will usher in a new era of transparency and effectiveness within the LDEA. This decision also reflects President Boakai’s dedication to holding leaders accountable—a principle he sees as vital for Liberia’s progress. As the Senate reviews Suoh’s appointment, there is a collective hope that this fresh leadership will bring a revitalized approach to Liberia’s drug enforcement strategy and bolster the fight against the illegal activities that threaten communities and families nationwide.
