Engr. Gonkerwon is a seasoned Electrical Engineer and Energy Expert, whose career has been a testament to his technical brilliance, strategic leadership, and unwavering dedication to the growth of Liberia’s energy infrastructure. With a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Liberia and an Advanced Diploma in Electricity from the Booker Washington Institute (BWI), he has laid a strong academic foundation for his work in the energy sector. His credentials are further bolstered by certifications in Project Planning & Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, and Procurement from the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA).

A Career of Impact and Leadership

Over the years, Engr. Gonkerwon has held pivotal roles across public, private, and diplomatic sectors. From his early days as a Substation Engineer to becoming the Executive Director for Distribution and Transmission at LEC, he has consistently delivered technical and managerial excellence. His career journey includes significant roles such as Manager of Transmission & Distribution, Deputy Managing Director for Operations, and Facilities Manager.

Notably, his expertise has extended beyond the corridors of LEC. Engr. Gonkerwon has worked with institutions like the Ministry of Public Works, Firestone Liberia, and the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia. His efforts have earned him recognition, including the prestigious “Mission Honor” award from the U.S. Embassy and certificates from the National Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. State Department.

Contributions to Liberia’s Energy Sector

Engr. Gonkerwon has been at the forefront of designing, constructing, and maintaining Liberia’s critical electrical infrastructure, from generation to transmission and distribution systems. His strategic vision has guided the management of LEC’s transmission and distribution assets, ensuring reliable energy delivery across the country.

Beyond his professional contributions, he has been an active member of the Engineering Society of Liberia, where he has held key leadership roles, including Secretary, Vice President, and President.
