The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has taken a strong stand against internal rifts within its ranks, temporarily suspending Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah along with ten other lawmakers. The suspension comes in response to accusations that these individuals were involved in an attempt to unseat House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa. The alleged conspiracy has set off a political storm within the CDC and could have implications for its unity moving forward.

This decision follows Part I, Article 15, Section 80, and Part II, Chapter I, Rules 17 and 18 of the party’s framework, which authorize the CDC to suspend any partisan suspected of actions that could destabilize the party. The lawmakers implicated will now face the CDC’s National Disciplinary Committee, or Grievance and Ethics Committee, to clarify their involvement in this alleged coup against Speaker Koffa.

Those facing suspension and investigation include:

  1. Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah – Representative, District #1, Lofa County

  2. Hon. Alexander Poure – Representative, District #1, River Gee County

  3. Hon. Isaac B. Choloplay Wuo – Representative, District #2, River Gee County

  4. Hon. Johnson S. N. Williams – Representative, District #3, River Gee County

  5. Hon. Julie F. Wiah – Representative, District #2, Lofa County

  6. Hon. Momo Siafa Kpoto – Representative, District #3, Lofa County

  7. Hon. Ivar K. Jones – Representative, District #2, Margibi County

  8. Hon. Emmanuel Yarl – Representative, District #4, Margibi County

  9. Hon. Clarence Gahr – Representative, District #5, Margibi County

  10. Hon. P. Mike Jurry – Representative, District #1, Maryland County

  11. Hon. Samson Q. Wiah – Representative, District #2, Sinoe County

This move to suspend high-profile CDC lawmakers illustrates the party’s intent to address internal discord and ensure loyalty among its ranks. By mandating that these representatives face the disciplinary committee, the CDC aims to send a strong message about party cohesion and accountability. CDC partisans across Liberia and the diaspora will be watching closely as the investigation unfolds.

House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa has remained largely silent on the matter, allowing the CDC’s disciplinary procedures to proceed without interference. His leadership and the support he retains within the party will likely be central to how the situation is resolved. The outcome of this investigation will reveal the CDC’s commitment to upholding party discipline and could have significant ramifications for its stability, especially as Liberia navigates a complex political landscape.

The suspensions reflect the CDC’s dedication to handling party grievances with a firm hand, indicating a broader strategy to maintain internal harmony amid Liberia’s often turbulent political environment. As the suspended lawmakers prepare to defend their actions before the National Disciplinary Committee, Liberians await a resolution that could either strengthen the CDC’s unity or expose deeper fault lines within its structure.
