A Manchester City player has been arrested in Madrid for stealing a Mobile Phone from an elderly man. Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes, a recent signing for Manchester City, has found himself at the center of a legal controversy after being arrested in Madrid for allegedly stealing a mobile phone from an elderly man. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, September 8, at the La Riviera nightclub, where Nunes was enjoying a night out.
According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the incident unfolded when an individual attempted to take a picture of Nunes in the bathroom. The midfielder allegedly responded by taking the man’s phone. Local police quickly intervened, and Nunes was detained at the scene.
Police officers took the midfielder to the Arganzuela police station, where he was questioned regarding a suspected theft. He was later released with charges, awaiting a trial that will determine the consequences of his actions.
Another version from witnesses has claimed that the victim reportedly touched the player with the phone in his hand to which the player reacted angrily and mistakenly thought he had taken his photograph. The 25-year-old spent some time behind bars before being bailed pending a trial.

Nunes is expected to face trial over the incident but will continue with Manchester City in the meantime. The Portugal international started in City’s Tuesday night Champions League fixture against Slovan Bratislava and could be next seen in action on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s side take on Fulham in the Premier League.
