Liberian artist Karnyeaman recently shared a deeply personal and inspiring post, giving the world a glimpse into his incredible journey from the depths of addiction to a place of hope, redemption, and freedom. His testimony isn’t just about overcoming drugs; it’s a beacon of light for those still struggling, a reminder that no matter how far we’ve fallen, there’s always a way back.

Karnyeaman recalls how his life took a downward spiral starting from high school, where he was introduced to drugs by a girlfriend who claimed it would enhance his creativity as a musician. What started as casual use of marijuana led to a dangerous and destructive journey through various substances, including alcohol, harder drugs, and ultimately, a battle with addiction that lasted over a decade.

He paints a vivid picture of the dark places he visited, not just in the physical sense—sleeping in graveyards and ghettos—but in the emotional and spiritual sense as well. Karnyeaman lost himself in addiction, drifting from one ghetto to the next, sinking deeper into a life that was stripping him of his humanity, leaving him deformed both inside and out. As he recounts his story, he describes the drugs and the street life as “Gbayzulugu,” a phrase meaning “someday good, someday bad.” This highlights the erratic and chaotic nature of addiction, where fleeting highs are followed by overwhelming lows.

Despite his struggles, Karnyeaman recognizes that God placed people in his life to guide him. While he admits he was often remorseless and unwilling to change at first, these individuals never gave up on him. He expresses gratitude to those who stood by him, those who offered advice, rebuked him, and even those who despised him—each playing a role in his eventual transformation.

One of the most profound moments in his testimony is his acknowledgment of his spiritual awakening. Reflecting on Genesis 3:9-11, where God asks Adam, “Where are you?” Karnyeaman connects this to his own life, realizing that he had lost his spiritual direction. He emphasizes that knowing where you are spiritually is the key to understanding where you’re headed. This insight became a turning point for him, propelling him toward recovery and a new life.

Now, a year clean, Karnyeaman celebrates his anniversary of change with joy and tears—not tears of sorrow, but tears of gratitude for his freedom. He marks this moment by sharing photos of himself in the same blue shirt he wore during the height of his addiction, a symbol of how far he has come. Today, he is not only free from the chains of addiction, but he is also a trusted member of his community, a counselor for others struggling with addiction, and a man filled with hope for the future.

Karnyeaman’s story is a powerful reminder that no matter how deep the pit, there is always a way out. He encourages others by sharing that the same God who set him free can do the same for anyone. He believes in the power of confession and transformation, urging anyone reading his story to embrace change, seek help, and trust in God’s plan for their lives.

As Karnyeaman writes, “What God cannot do does not exist.” His story is not just his own—it’s a testimony for others to find hope, healing, and purpose. Today, he is a living testament to the power of God’s grace and the strength of the human spirit to overcome even the most challenging circumstances. Through his story, he seeks to extend his hand to others, offering them the same hope that brought him back to life.

To those who may be struggling with addiction or other battles, Karnyeaman’s journey shows that change is possible. It’s a long road, but with faith, perseverance, and the right support, anyone can rise again.

If you believe in this transformation and the power of change, join Karnyeaman in his declaration: AMEN!
