The Liberian government, through the Civil Service Agency (CSA), has announced the immediate termination of mobile money payment services for government employees across various ministries and agencies. The move affects over 300 employees who had previously been receiving payments via Lonestar MTN and Orange GSM mobile money platforms.

CSA Director General Josiah Joekai revealed that the decision was driven by concerns over the exploitation of the government through the mobile payment system. According to Joekai, certain individuals were taking advantage of the service, leading to its abrupt termination.

This policy change is expected to take full effect on October 31, leaving hundreds of employees seeking alternative payment methods for their salaries. The CSA’s swift action underscores the government’s commitment to preventing any misuse of public funds and ensuring accountability in the payroll system.

While the termination may disrupt payment processes for many employees, the CSA has emphasized the necessity of this step to safeguard government resources and prevent further exploitation. Further details on how the affected employees will receive their salaries moving forward are expected in the coming weeks.
